Three Graphic Score Studies

Three Graphic Score Studies is a set of three works intended to introduce the world of graphic scoring to choirs. It was commissioned by the University of Toronto Scarborough Concert Choir with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
  1. Ice Sculpture is inspired by the fleeting nature of an ice sculpture and explores how basic shapes and textures can be interpreted musically in a graphic score.
  2. Nightfall is a depiction of not-so-silent night with all sorts of creatures bustling in darkness. This movement introduces multiple parts in a graphic score and doubles as a creative listening and ear training exercise.
  3. Ripple is a song about the power of our actions to spark change. Throughout this piece, melodies and sounds move through the choir, bringing this concept to life.
