Siren Song
Inspired by the mysterious mythological creature, Siren Song is an imagined song sung by a group of sirens to lure in captives and put them under their spell with their ethereal singing. The song begins quite simply and beautifully then gradually transforms until the end of the work when the sirens reveal their true intent. Both the text and music are written by Katerina Gimon.
Siren Song was commissioned and premiered by Myriad Ensemble conducted by Elise Naccarrato on June 9, 2018, at "Voices of Summer" in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. Note from the composer I’ve always been interested in the myths and stories of sirens, creatures known for their ability to enchant those who listen to their songs. I wrote “Siren Song” as an imagined song sung by a group of sirens to lure in those listening. When learning this work, pay close attention to the character makings written into the score and subtle musical transformation throughout to entrance your audiences! — K.G. |
